Service Description

We are intricately connected to our land, our waters, our environment. Our tupuna thrived by acknowledging this connection, building matauranga by observing the natural tohu and rhythms of te taiao. Our whakapapa is the anchor upon which we tether ourselves in the storms of confusion and in times of crisis. Whakapapa serves as an acknowledgement of whence we came; our lineage and our heritage. Whakapapa links people to all other living things; to the earth, the sky, and traces the universe back to its origins. When we stand as Māori to introduce ourselves, we recite our pepeha, relaying information about where we come from, who we affiliate to and our connection to te taiao. It allows us to understand our identity, and from there, our connection to our place in the world. It gives us a place in the world. It is one thing to recite your pepeha, it is another to live and breathe it. To stand in it, to gaze from it, to connect with all that it is. The health and mana of the people is a reflection of the state of our “place”. We belong to the land/water/air and it is the kaitiaki of us. We are all connected. Educators strive to create space and time for students to honour their pepeha. Imagine your students connected and grounded to their pepeha - imagine your tamariki having the knowledge to awhina our species that are found within our rohe because they realise that we are nothing without them. Imagine bringing your student's pepeha to life, so when they recite it they are surrounded by all the species who live there. When our children speak, they speak from a place of deep knowing. They feel the call to protect and enhance their place of belonging. They understand that their health and mana is a reflection of the quality of their place - their pepeha. This collaboration between student, kaiako, the facilitators and environmental scientist of Tatai Hono Consulting will: Grow and enhance your matauranga and cultural responsiveness in the classroom as a kaiako. Safely, bound by experts, allow your students to explore their pepeha through the lens of science and math. Contribute to the future of the rohe in which you and your students live Please email naumai@tataihono.com with your expressions of interest and for further details to join us.
